Formed in 1953, the ivy league is an athletic conference between eight of the oldest private universities in new england. In december, harvard appointed two first-generation liaisons — one in the office of financial aid, the other in the office of career services — to help ease the transition for students. All of the schools in the ivy league are private and not currently associated with any religion. Recent research from stanford's raj chetty and colleagues found that children from the top 1 percent of families by income were seventy-seven times more likely to go to an ivy league school than children who grew up in the bottom fifth of families. In particular, princeton won 26 recognized national championships in college football (last in 1935), and yale won 18 (last in 1927).
